Gabriela BulisovaGabriela Bulisova photographs with a keen, probing eye and a deep commitment to social issues. In her various series on Chernobyl, Iraqi refugees, and her family’s native village in southern Slovakia, she connects intimately with her subjects and produces complex, moving photographs. Bulisova’s current project addresses the impact of mass incarceration on families and children.

Gabriela Bulisova has taught at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design of George Washington University since 2007. She has published her photographs widely, in the New York Review of Books, the Smithsonian Magazine, and National Geographic, among other publications, and has exhibited in Washington, DC, New York, and Ukraine.

 

Terri WeissmanTerri Weissman is Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is co-curator of American Modern: Abbott, Evans, Bourke-White, and author of The Realisms of Berenice Abbott: Documentary Photography and Political Action. Weissman has published articles on photography, urban ecology, and trauma, and is currently co-authoring a textbook on global photography.
