Photoworks Gallery announces a Call for Entries for “Worlds Apart”, our 2019 Juried Youth Photography Contest and Exhibition. It is our 7th Annual Juried Show for Young Photographers and students are encouraged to submit their work, and their perspectives, to this year’s show.
The competition is designed for students of photography aged 18 and under and past year’s selected photographs have been taken by students as young as 10 years old.
This competition seeks to identify that which makes us all the same and all so different. Show us your world, across the globe or around the corner in your own neighborhood.
Juror, Kristen McNicholas is an Associate Photo Editor at National Geographic with the Your Shot photo community. She previously interned at the White House Photo Office during the Obama Administration and with Education Week. As a photo editor with a community, Kristen loves to guide photographers to challenge themselves to make their best work. She hails proudly from the Finger Lakes region in New York and loves all things dessert.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Friday, June 14, 2019
Notification: Friday, June 28, 2019
Reception/gallery talk, awards ceremony: Saturday, July 27, 5-7 pm
Submit 1-3 images in jpg format to: photoworks.gallery@gmail.com
Entry fee: $25 for up to 3 images
2019 YOUTH PHOTO CONTEST RULES OF ENTRY
1. Age Requirement: Open to all students 18 & under.
2. Theme: “Worlds Apart”
3. Entry Fee: The $25 entry fee allows the photographer to submit up to 3 images. Note: If submitting more than 3 images, please submit an additional entry fee.

- Entry Fee Alternative: Send $25 check (made payable to Photoworks) to Photoworks Youth Photo Competition, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo, MD 20812.
5. Digital, film, cell phone, and alternative camera/process images will all be accepted.
6. Email your images to photoworks.gallery@gmail.com
7. The subject line of the email should read “2019 Youth Photo competition” followed by the photographer’s name, title of work and price.
8. Make sure your images are in “jpeg” format. The file size of each should be no wider than 1600 pixels and no taller than 1200 pixels (medium quality).
9. Key dates
- Submit your photos by: Sunday, July 14 – before 11:59 PM.
- Artists notified by Friday, June 28.
- Work to be delivered to Photoworks by Wednesday, July 17.
- Installed on July 18, 2019.
10: Selected work must be professionally presented, framed with wire and ready to hang.
11. SALES: Artist retains 60% of sale, Photoworks 40%
